So far I had only few basic mods done to the stock
car. This includes throwing out the stock intake and sticking "racing" air
filter. I replaced the stock air box with
simota
air filter. This filter has far less restrictions than the stock filter.
This was $40 and the stainless steel pipe to replace resonator was $10. I
did want K&N but it was 3 times more expensive and does the same thing,
though I recomenr K&N. Another mod was getting rid of insides of the
catalytic converter. This was only $50 and the muffler mechanic took it off,
trashed the guts, and put it back on in less than one hour. The car did get
noisier, but its hardly noticeable. And the last but not the least was sticking
in the Turbo Smart
manual boost controller Part #: FG-GBCV
. This cost me $120 for the controller, $7 for silicone hose and $7 for 4
clamps (I got some expensive EFI hose that was $50 for one meter. I only
got 15 cm). It didn’t take long to fit this one (less then one hour), only
uncomfortable. All this was done over few weeks, and I am happy to say that I could notice a bit of difference when cranked my boost up to 9 psi. (Though my pop-off valve is a pain, cos it opens at 7-8 psi and I can’t get full boost with it on, I took it off until I can fix it up to open at 12 psi.) Next mod will be getting rid of the stock muffler and sticking 3” straight through stainless steel “racing” muffler. I don’t have money to get 3” mandrel bent to replace the whole of the stock exhaust system YET, but hopefully this will follow in few years. Interior mods included installation of Rhino alarm it took me two full days to do it. This includes two stage immobilisation with remote central locking. The alarm works perfect (better than “professional” installation. In most cases people who do anything to your car, never take care of your baby and charge you money too. Bunch of dicks who call themselves professionals installed alarm on my friends car so that when he goes over bumps the immobiliser turns on and the car stalls) But I don’t recommend you to install things like alarm yourself unless you have some idea of electronics or better some knowledge of car electrical systems. And also if you have good weekend of free time. Boost Gauge Part# 537-03 from Speco goes to 20 psi, since I am not planing to ever run more than 20. This was $80 plus $25 for the pod, $11 for extension kit (hoses that came with the gauge were too short). Also I got some bulb condoms to make it glow green like my digital dash, this was $5. Come on who are we kidding here, some people stick 30 psi boost gauges on their ETs and EXAs with 1.5 turbo engines that don’t have water cooled turbos and talk about running 30psi, I don’t think so. Steering wheel from Autotechnica set me back $200 including boss kit. New mats, they were blue (colour matched) so I got them $40. (They were some universal fit mats). And that’s it. The next interior mod will be tinted windows this will be done before the next hot season, and a decent CD stereo system with speakers (NO SUBS). At the moment it has stock 80W tape player which is not that bad except it sequels when it plays tapes. Update: At last got rid of my old tape player and stuck an awesome pioneer CD player. Its 50Wx4 and is a great deck. One tip for people converting from stock decks to nice CD players; look out: stock decks have external amps under passenger sit (her in RHD cars don’t know if its under drivers sit in US) you will need to run speaker wires from under a sit to your new deck, that is if you are not planing to use aftermarket power amp (I recommend you do) then you just get rid of the old amp and stick a new one under the sit. This way you still will have to run wires from deck to your new amp. Its not that hard. It took me 5 hours to take old shit out and put new in. I took the factory spoiler of because it was rusting, and since this car has no rust what so ever, I didn’t want the hatch to start rusting up. Also it was very heavy and hatch never stayed open. I am hoping to get some sort of wing for the back to fill the holes from the factory spoiler. |
